UPS vs FedEx: which is cheaper for your shipments?

Compare ground, 2-day, and overnight on the same packages. Then see both at an account rate, without a contract.

UPS versus FedEx on identical inputs

UPS vs FedEx rates are only comparable when the shipment is the same. Same origin, destination, weight, dimensions, residential or commercial, and the same kind of promise. UPS Ground against FedEx Priority Overnight is not a comparison. It is two products.

The Shipping Savers can price both carriers. No contract and no monthly fee. You do not have to pick a tribe before you see the invoice.

The one published dollar figure

We publish one real label, and it is UPS, not a blended average. 10 lb, 10 × 10 × 10 inches, UPS Next Day Air, New York to Los Angeles: $35.75 before, $16.78 with The Shipping Savers. There is no matching FedEx figure on this site, because we do not invent one. Your FedEx number is in your FedEx file.

Running the side-by-side without cheating

Pick twenty real shipments. For each, write origin ZIP, destination ZIP, weight, dimensions, residential or not, and the promise (ground, second day, or next day). Price UPS and FedEx only on that promise.

Do not award the win to whichever carrier has a drop box closer to the warehouse unless pickup time is part of the promise. A cheaper label that misses your cutoff is late.

Surcharges get their own sum. If UPS wins transportation and FedEx wins after residential and delivery area, the winner is the after number.

The $35.75 to $16.78 card is UPS only. It is not a FedEx result and it is not a ground result. Leave it out of a FedEx Ground debate.

How it works

  1. Send a recent UPS or FedEx invoice, or a shipment export with ZIP codes, service, weight, dimensions and charges.
  2. We compare the same packages and the same service. The price you see is the label price.
  3. If the numbers work, you ship with UPS or FedEx on our account. Our fee is one cent per label, already included. There is no monthly fee and no contract.

What you pay us

The Shipping Savers fee is $0.01 per purchased label. It is already inside the price on the label. We do not add a monthly membership. Carrier charges, residential fees, fuel, delivery-area fees and other accessorials are part of that label price, not a second bill from us. Read the pricing page for the full explanation.

The only published before-and-after figure on this site is one real shipment: a 10 lb UPS Next Day Air package, 10 × 10 × 10 inches, New York to Los Angeles. It was $35.75 before and $16.78 with The Shipping Savers. That is not a rate for your lane. Your price comes from your own file.

Shopify and ShipStation

You can keep the software you already use to take orders. Shopify stays the store. ShipStation can stay the place where the team buys labels. On ShipStation, our Chrome add-on shows the rate next to the order, including when the order uses third-party billing. See discounted rates inside ShipStation and Shopify shipping rates.

Questions

Is UPS or FedEx cheaper?

It depends on the package, the zone, and the service. Neither is cheaper for every shipper. The test below is how you find out for yours.

Is there a contract, monthly fee, or minimum volume?

No contract, no monthly fee, and no minimums. The only fee from The Shipping Savers is one cent per label, and it is already included in the price you see.

Do the packages still ship with UPS and FedEx?

Yes. The same UPS and FedEx services, drivers, and tracking. What changes is the account the label is priced on.

How do I get a real price?

Send a recent invoice or a shipment export. We price your packages. We do not publish a table of sample lanes, because a lane that is not yours is not your price.

Get a rate on your shipments

Send a work email and, if you have it, a recent UPS or FedEx invoice. We compare your packages. This form does not show a live price.
