Oversized parcel rates are a surcharge problem
Oversized package shipping rates look ordinary until the invoice adds additional handling and a large-package fee. Those lines can cost more than the transportation charge. A discount on the base rate that leaves the surcharge untouched is how a 'cheap' oversized label stays expensive.
The Shipping Savers prices the UPS or FedEx service you are already using for that carton, including the accessorials the size triggers. No contract, no monthly fee, no minimums. The one-cent fee is inside the label price.
The three triggers that change the price
Carriers publish the exact inch and pound cutoffs, and they change them. The pattern is stable even when the numbers move. A long side can trigger additional handling. A high length-plus-girth (length plus twice the width plus twice the height) can trigger a large-package or oversize charge. A heavy box can trigger a weight version of the same fees. Past a further limit the parcel is not a parcel anymore.
Before you ask for a rate, write down the tendered carton: longest side, the other two sides, and scale weight. A quote from 'about 40 pounds' is not a quote.
Ground versus freight
A single oversized carton to a residence is often still a parcel, because a pallet has a liftgate and a residential fee of its own. A shipment of several large cartons to one address is the point where LTL freight deserves a side-by-side. We compare them from the same origin, destination, and weight. We do not publish a fake 'over 150 lb always ship freight' rule.
Industries that hit this every week: furniture, fitness equipment, rugs, grills, and industrial parts. If that is the mix, also read heavy package shipping.
Reading an oversized invoice
Pull every line that says additional handling or large package, whatever the current carrier name for it is. Add them next to transportation. If the surcharge total is larger than the transportation total, the base-rate discount is not the project. The carton is.
Length plus girth is length plus two widths plus two heights. Write it down for the five cartons you ship most. If they sit just over a published threshold, a half-inch of packaging redesign is worth more than a new account. If they sit far over it, the account still has to price the fee honestly.
Residential oversized is the expensive combination. A sofa cover to a house and the same carton to a warehouse are not one rate. Mark the address type.
When several oversized cartons share a destination, price the parcel version and ask for an LTL view of the same pounds. We compare those two. We do not publish a pound number that 'always' flips to freight, because the address and the liftgate change it.
How it works
- Send a recent UPS or FedEx invoice, or a shipment export with ZIP codes, service, weight, dimensions and charges.
- We compare the same packages and the same service. The price you see is the label price.
- If the numbers work, you ship with UPS or FedEx on our account. Our fee is one cent per label, already included. There is no monthly fee and no contract.
What you pay us
The Shipping Savers fee is $0.01 per purchased label. It is already inside the price on the label. We do not add a monthly membership. Carrier charges, residential fees, fuel, delivery-area fees and other accessorials are part of that label price, not a second bill from us. Read the pricing page for the full explanation.
The only published before-and-after figure on this site is one real shipment: a 10 lb UPS Next Day Air package, 10 × 10 × 10 inches, New York to Los Angeles. It was $35.75 before and $16.78 with The Shipping Savers. That is not a rate for your lane. Your price comes from your own file.
Shopify and ShipStation
You can keep the software you already use to take orders. Shopify stays the store. ShipStation can stay the place where the team buys labels. On ShipStation, our Chrome add-on shows the rate next to the order, including when the order uses third-party billing. See discounted rates inside ShipStation and Shopify shipping rates.
Questions
Do you handle large and oversized packages?
Yes. Large, heavy, and oversized parcels are a normal part of the account, not an exception we price later.
When should a parcel become freight?
When the large-package and handling fees, or the size limits, make a pallet cheaper or the only legal tender. We compare both from the same dimensions. We do not guess a dollar threshold that fits every lane.
Is there a contract, monthly fee, or minimum volume?
No contract, no monthly fee, and no minimums. The only fee from The Shipping Savers is one cent per label, and it is already included in the price you see.
Do the packages still ship with UPS and FedEx?
Yes. The same UPS and FedEx services, drivers, and tracking. What changes is the account the label is priced on.
How do I get a real price?
Send a recent invoice or a shipment export. We price your packages. We do not publish a table of sample lanes, because a lane that is not yours is not your price.
